Dear ASPA friends & clients,
“Skin boosters” are everywhere right now—PDRN/PNDR, exosomes, peptides, polynucleotides, growth factors… and it can feel confusing fast. They’re not all the same, they don’t work the same way, and they don’t have the same level of clinical evidence behind them.
Here’s a clear guide to the difference, without the hype.
1) PDRN / PNDR (often called “polynucleotides”)
You may see this written as PDRN (sometimes mistakenly as “PND”). PDRN refers to DNA-derived fragments used in aesthetic medicine, most commonly as injectable “skin boosters” in some countries.
How it’s positioned:
Supports skin recovery and a “healthier” look (hydration, texture, glow)
Often marketed for post-procedure repair and improving overall skin quality
What to know:
The strongest use cases are typically in medical settings and often involve injectable protocols
Evidence exists that they could give results, but it varies by formulation, route (injectable vs. topical), and region which part is treated
2) Exosomes
Exosomes are naturally occurring cell-to-cell messengers in the body. In aesthetics, “exosome therapy” usually means applying a concentrated exosome product topically after a procedure (like microneedling or laser) to support recovery and results.
How it’s positioned:
Faster-looking recovery (less redness, calmer skin)
Enhanced results when paired with procedures that create micro-channels in the skin
What to know:
This is a fast-moving, newer category. Quality and sourcing can differ widely
Clinical evidence is emerging, but regulation and naming can vary by region and product type
3) Peptides (the “steady science” option)
Peptides are short chains of amino acids—the building blocks of proteins like collagen and elastin. In skincare, peptides act as signal-support ingredients that can improve the appearance of firmness, hydration, and lines over time.
How they’re positioned:
Daily support for smoother texture, firmer look, and barrier resilience
A long-term “maintenance active” that works well in minimalist routines
Why peptides are often the most clinically researched
Peptides have been used in skincare for decades, across many product formats, and they’re generally easier to study in controlled cosmetic settings compared with newer biological materials. That doesn’t mean every peptide product is equal—dose, stability, and formulation matter—but as a category, peptides are among the most established, widely tested options for consistent, long-term skin support.
So… which one should you choose?
A simple decision guide:
If you want post-procedure recovery support: exosomes (in clinic, paired with microneedling/laser) can be a great add-on.
If you’re exploring medical “skin booster” injections: PDRN/polynucleotides are a doctor-led conversation (ask about product source, protocol, and expectations).
If you want reliable daily results: peptides are the most practical “investment active” for most people—especially if your skin is sensitive or you prefer a calm routine.
